Working at a desk for hours a day could put you at risk of the disease feel ', a Minnesota doctor has warned.

Extra time in the gym does not seem to be the solution, said Dr. James Levine, proposing an innovative solution - desktop stand.

The doctor himself has been walking on a treadmill while working for ten years and chair cree jail just is not natural.

Spending too much time on our butts and not in the feet can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in much the same way as smoking, the doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester argued.

He is testing his theory that his feet stay healthy is to help initiate a new study in a small firm in Minneapolis. The stations 'job-fit' desks to replace 30 employees now can sit or stand while working. The study, and a handful of similar experiments in the world, is in

"Researchers have linked sitting for extended periods with a number of health problems and premature death from cardiovascular disease," wrote Dr. James Levine at the Mayo Clinic website.

He cited a recent study found that adults who spend more than four hours a day sitting in front of the TV had a 80 percent increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease compared to those who spent less than two hours a day.

The risk was independent of other risk factors such as smoking or diet, he said.

When standing instead of sitting, burn more calories three times, he argued. Muscle contractions, including those required to stand, seem to trigger important processes related to the breakdown of fats and sugars. When you sit, muscle contractions cease and stop these processes. "

Dr. Levine also has been testing Walkstations - a cross between an office workstation and a treadmill.

The treadmill encourages quiet stroll rather than a slow walk faster or longer, designed for office workers can carry out their normal duties while staying active.

"Over the past 150 years, we've become chair of prison. We stand behind a screen all day at work. We are in a car or bus to and from work. And in the evening, we are in a chair watching TV or surfing the Internet, "said Dr. Levine. "We went from being in the legs during the day to be in our funds throughout the day."
