'Millionth English word' declared

The Global Language Monitor, announced today that Web 2.0 has become the millionth English word or phrase to enter the language. A technical term meaning the next generation of World Wide Web services, Web 2.0 has moved from technical jargon in much wider circulation.

Before the announcement of the word a million took Jeremy Paxman spoke to Professor David Crystal, a linguist and leader Paul JJ Payack, president of Global Language Monitor to discuss the validity of the claim that the word of one million was about to appear.
