Giant Manta Ray pulled aboard the oil services-team after being killed by the anchor

A giant Manta Ray was found dead after he became entangled in the anchor of a ship.

The men on board the service vessel oil drilling in the South Atlantic have no doubt go to the surprise of their lives when they realized the great creature that is drawn to as they were about to sail.

Is believed to anchor the beam accidentally hit while he was resting on the ocean floor near Nigeria's Bonny Island.

Mantas, found in temperate regions, can grow to almost 30 meters in diameter and weighing over a ton. They feed on plankton and do not have stinging spines.

The team posed for pictures with the blanket before being sold to local fishermen for about five thousand naira (about £ 20).

It is believed some of the men were disappointed they could not be used for research purposes.
